Where is engineering heading in 2024?

Today we find ourselves in a fast-changing world, where developments are made every day and in every way possible. So what role does Engineering play in this modern world ? And what are some of the most advanced and important fields of Engineering today?  That is what we are going to talk about next.

Renewable Energy

Non-renewable energy is no longer an option in the future, that is why there have been enormous efforts in the last few decades to find a trusted renewable source of energy that would be suitable to rely on in the future.

Some of those renewable sources have already been discovered and are being used efficiently today. Solar Energy is one good example of Renewable Energy Sources. It is considered a clean source of energy, although it may be a little expensive to install solar panels but it’s absolutely worth it .

Some countries , such as China, the US and Japan have excelled in the sector of renewable-energy , which still is very promising in the future. Electrical and Electronic Engineers are supposed to be really qualified and prepared to keep up to date with the last advances in this technology as they will be hired for many jobs.

Robotics

The amazing technological advancements that the last decade has witnessed made Robotics Engineering an important branch that is going to play a vital role in the near future.

Factories are already applying many kinds of robots in their industrial processes.  Using Robots to do the simple tasks that do not acquire human experience has made the assembly lines more and more efficient. Robots are also used in many other aspects of our lives , that’s why a lot of effort is being dedicated to design , develop and build Robots. Some sort of new robots ‘Humanoid Robots’ which possess the main aspects of humans have been developed recently. We still expect to see a lot more of breath-taking developments in the near future in the field of Robotics.

Machine Learning

When we talk about the most important technological advancements of our days, we must mention the field of Machine Learning. Machine Learning means to develop software algorithms and programs that teach machines how to think in a way close to humans through repetition and adjusting their behavior.

This technology is useful to us because once the machine learns the right way of thinking , we can use it to solve real life problems in a much faster pace than humans. So software engineers have a significant part to play here, as it is their job to design and develop algorithms and programs that make machines smarter and more capable of aiding us.

Computer Vision

Computer Vision can be defined as a branch of computer science that empowers machines to see, recognize and process images just like humans. This technology depends on both Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and is absolutely very important and time-saving.

The advances in digital images electronics and Classifying Algorithms have made it possible to get accuracy up to 99%, which is even more accurate than humans!

There are many applications for Computer Vision in real life, such as: intruder detection, tumor detection, crop monitoring, vehicle classification, traffic flow analysis, media, insurance and many more.

Electronics Engineers have an important role here of course , as they have the required potentials to develop image sensors and processors used in computer vision, as well as Software Engineers who can develop programs and algorithms in order to apply computer vision in even more complicated applications.

Now that we’ve learned about some Engineering Branches that hold the key to our modern advanced future, you can easily choose a career in one of those branches and be a part of creating the future!
